Who We Are: Little Brother From Durham
We're Little Brother, a hip-hop group from Durham, North Carolina. This is where our merch lives, so here is the short version of who we are.
Where did Little Brother start?
It started in 1998 at North Carolina Central University. That's where Phonte, Rapper Big Pooh and 9th Wonder met. Phonte and Pooh rhymed, 9th Wonder made the beats, and the three of us started working as a group.
Who is in the group?
Today Little Brother is Phonte (Phonte Coleman) and Rapper Big Pooh (Thomas Jones). 9th Wonder (Pat Douthit), our producer, was there from the beginning and left in 2007. His beats are all over our first records, and that era is a big part of our story.
What was the Justus League?
We came up as part of the Justus League, the North Carolina alternative hip-hop collective. It was a circle of artists from our part of the state, and it shaped how we sounded from day one.
When did the first records come out?
- Our first recording: "Speed", in August 2001, the first song we made as a group.
- Our first label: we signed to ABB Records in 2002.
- Our first album: The Listening, in 2003.
- The next step: later we signed to Atlantic Records.
What is this shop?
It's our merch, all in one place. The navy and gold script "L" is our mark, and you'll find it here along with designs built around our name and our faces. Every design comes on tees, long sleeves, crewnecks and hoodies.
Durham is where we started, and it's still in everything we put our name on. Thank you for being here with us.
